Transition time.
The red salmon run is up and down right now, and the silver salmon are just starting to show.
It’s normal.
We’re between the salmon runs and it’s hard to predict the action.
On to the weekly fishing report.
I fished a lot of long time guests/friends this past week. That never gets old. I was also able to introduce the Kenai River experience to two new faces, Heidi and William.

I started the week with Tom, Derek, Blake, and Gary. Plenty of red salmon were moving through the lower Kenai River on this day.

The next day I had my old friend George, his grandson Riley (pictured above), and their friend William. It was a tough day trying to find the fish. Riley caught the only red salmon.

The following day wasn’t a whole lot better. Jay and Heidi were able to catch three. Believe me, it wasn’t their skill that kept fish off the stringer. It was a lack of fish passing through the lower Kenai.

I fished the two of them again the next day. The fishing was a little better. Heidi said her goal was to catch a salmon in Alaska. She caught more than that. I’m glad I could help her do it.

On Friday, George, Riley, and William lit it up. Overnight a surge of red salmon came into the river. William also caught a bonus silver salmon. Congratulations on the first silver salmon of year in my boat!

Saturday morning Mike, Nicole, and Bob put the waders on and got their limits. The first and last are always the hardest, right Mike? Always fun to spend time with these guys. I’m looking forward to our next trip.
For the week ahead, I expect a 100% effort from me and my guests. We’re going to target whatever is swimming in the river that we can legally catch.
See you next Sunday for a brand new weekly fishing recap.
