I’m biased. Very biased. But, it’s not just me that thinks the Kenai River is a special place. Others do too. Attractions of America has ranked the Kenai River number one in the Top 10 Most Beautiful Rivers in the US. The article and rankings can be found here. My love affair with the Kenai River began in …
Winter Moose
I always feel a bit sorry for the conditions that moose endure every winter. Dark, cold, not much food, and deep snow makes life difficult. If the curveballs that Mother Nature throws isn’t enough, humans make winter difficult for moose as well. Between vehicles and trains, the moose collision fatalities are at their …
Cue the Moose
Before I get on with the weekly blog, I need to address the business end of our business. Prime fishing dates have been filling fast for 2023, which is good and bad. Good for our business, but bad for guests still needing to make reservations. The scenario that often happens is this. Jane receives a call asking about …
Thanksgiving Week
It’s Thanksgiving week and many of you will be traveling to spend time with family and friends. Remember to be kind to one another and respectful. Grievances and strong opinions can wait for another day. Jane and I wish you health and happiness this Thanksgiving. …
A few laughs
Many people think the worst weather month in SouthCentral Alaska is November. That’s because it’s a transition period. One day it will be below zero, and the next it will be above freezing. Two feet of snow one day, rain the next. Mother Nature hasn’t made up her mind which season it is. It can be a mess. And, if the …
Thanks, Part 2
I appreciate the feedback on the white board vs. wipe board debate. It’s settled. The message boards on the cabins are white boards. So, enjoy part two of the platitudes. Thanks again, everybody, for your kind and humorous words. …
Thanks, Part 1
Is it a white board, or is it a wipe board? The board is white, and you do wipe it, so what the heck is it called then? Feel free to weigh in on the debate in the comment section of Facebook. Every season, Jane and I are fortunate to have guests leave us notes on the cabin white/wipe boards. It’s been a …
Season Wrap Up
First of all, I’d like to thank all of you that chose to hire me as a guide and stay at our cabins. If it weren’t for you, I’d have nothing to blog/brag about. I’ve been asked by a lot of people how the season went. My response has been that Jane and I had a great year. We had consistent fishing for much of the season and that …
That’s All, Folks….
All good things must come to an end. On Sunday, October 9th, the tide was high enough to float the dock out for the year. The crew. Pictured from left to right is MJ, Ron, Dan, and me. Not pictured is Jane. Thanks everyone for all your help. See you next week for my annual end of the season wrap …
Fishing Report Week Ending 10/9/22
That’s it. Pictured above is the last silver salmon caught in my boat for 2022. There are still a few diehards fishing the lower river, but for me, the season is done. Fishing the river wasn’t the only angling I did this past week. I worked in a halibut trip too. I got a last minute call from Boo of Tall Tale Charters …
