When I’m guiding on the Kenai River I’m often asked what do I do in the winter time.
My answer: I fish.
I don’t guide in the winter, but I go ice fishing because I love it.

I’ve been ice an fisherman my entire life. To say I’m passionate about it is an understatement. As soon as I put my boat away, I can’t wait until the ice is safe enough to walk out on.

What kind of fish do I like to catch? I’m not picky. I like to catch whatever will bite.

Where do I ice fish? I ice fish in Alaska, Canada, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. The two bucket list destinations for me are Fort Peck, Montana, and Lake Erie, Ohio. I hope to get to both places in the next couple of years.

There’s something Zen-like to stare down an ice fishing hole patiently waiting for a fish to bite.

There are times that a lake can be busy with ice fisherman. Most of the time, however, it’s a peaceful way to spend time in nature. Catching a few fish for dinner is just an added bonus.

I’m lucky that Jane joins me once in awhile too!
