The dock is out of the creek and stored until spring.
About the only thing left to do is close the front gate.
Sigh….It’s always bittersweet putting things away for the year.
I was a little worried about getting the dock out this year. A leak developed in one of the floatation chambers, and the extra weight caused it to ride several inches lower in the water than normal. All summer I was wondering if the dock would be too heavy to get out.
Luckily, on the high tide on Thursday, the dock was able to clear the creek bed ridge and float to the grassy step next to the wood walkway. It will stay there until next spring.
I originally planned to repair the leak. But, considering the age of the dock, and the amount of traffic it sees every season, I’m going replace the entire damaged section.
I’d like to thank the usual dock crew, Jane and Dan, for their help. I’d also like to thank Rusty, who showed up on his own accord. Even though I wasn’t expecting him, it was reassuring to have an extra set of hands just in case something went haywire.
**mic drop** Yet another moose sighting this week.
Sadly, in my next blogpost I’ll be sharing stories about one of the most beloved Alaskans, Hobo Jim Varsos. He unfortunately lost his battle with cancer this past week.
See you then.
