My apologies to John Steinbeck for the dad joke.
It was a good week for moose viewing. It was also a good week of fishing for a couple of fisherman staying at the cabins.
I got a text from a neighbor saying a momma moose with two babies were heading our way. A few minutes later they were in our front yard feeding on the greenery.
All three looked healthy with mom still shedding her thick winter coat. It will soon be replaced by sleeker, darker summer fur.
“Where did mom go???” Said the thought bubble above the calves.
After a few frightful seconds, they found her in the backyard. Mom always know where the best nibbling leaves are.
It’s good to see salmon showing up in the area rivers, even if I’m not involved with the catching.
Jay and Aaron spent Wednesday morning fishing the Kasilof River and caught their limit of red salmon. Their timing was perfect. The day they fished, 12,000 salmon passed the counter. On a small river like the Kasilof, that’s a lot of fish.
To the victors, go the spoils. Great job, guys.
On Saturday, Jay and Aaron fished in Homer with Boo of Tall Tale Charters. It was another fine outing for the two of them.
For the week ahead, Jane and I will be spending a couple of days camping and fishing at the Russian River. Come back next Sunday to see how we did.
