Sawdust and silvers.
That best describes this past week.
The Trapper Creek Timber Crew traveled south to assist me with the take down of dead spruce trees around the cabins. Trees were cut in the mornings, the afternoons were spent chasing silver salmon.
We were successful doing both.
Tim is the ring leader and elder statesman of the Trapper Creek Timber Crew. I joked that the Sahara desert was the Sahara forest before Tim got there. He’s been dropping trees for about as long as I’ve been using a fishing pole.

Here’s Tim’s son Eli. To say that the chainsaw doesn’t fall far from the tree would be an understatement.

Rocket brought a complimentary skill set to the tree dropping party. Jesslie, like me, loaded the slash onto the trailer and stacked the bucked up wood. We all had our roles.
Thanks guys for all your help. Your skill and knowledge surely saved me from damaging one of the cabins.
When the work of cutting trees was over, we went fishing. I’d have to say it wasn’t too bad for the limited time we were out there.

Here’s Tim with a nice silver salmon.

Eli too.
Jesslie is happily posing with his fish.

Last but not least, is Rocket with his catch.

After the Trapper Creek Timber Crew left, Jane and I tried our luck for the rest of the week. We weren’t terribly successful. In a couple of days of fishing, we both caught a couple of silver salmon each.
For the week ahead I plan on sneaking out a few times. Based on last week, I’m not anticipating great results. Every day the action has gotten a little bit slower. That usually means one thing; the silver salmon run is past peak on the lower Kenai River.
See you next week!
