Fishing Report Week Ending 9/18/22

September 18, 2022 //  by beavercreek

I didn’t guide everyday this past week. I was suppose to fish my sister and her friends, but circumstances caused them to put their Alaska trip on hold until next year. The rest of the week I was in the boat with old friends, and a few new ones, and finished the week guiding in a women’s only fishing event.

I started the week fishing with long time guests Nick and Brittany along with newcomers Ken (Brittany’s dad), and Jay.  It was a solid, steady bite all day. As you can see in the photo, the average size was impressive. As Nick said, “the B run silvers are bigger”.  He’s right.

The next day, the four of us did it all over again (but in the rain).  It was great to spend a couple of days with you Nick and Brittany and I especially appreciate the custom color lures you gave me. Also, it was nice to meet Ken. Jay, on the other hand, is a guy from the same town I grew up in Minnesota. We talked for two days about mutual friends and I felt like I may have neglected the other three in the boat because we were talking so much. I hope not, but if I did, I apologize. See you all again in the future!

27 guides in queue to pick up participants in the Women’s Classic 2022.

I finished out the week fishing in an event sponsored by the Kenai River Sportfishing Association. The Women’s Classic is held every year in mid September with over one hundred women fishing (and networking) for two mornings.

It’s been several years since I last participated in this event and forgot how much fun everyone has. Since I was a hired hand, I have no dock fish pictures to share with you. But, I did take a few boat photos.

For the week ahead, I won’t be on the river too many days. My guiding season is starting to wind down and I have a few off water chores to take care of. In particular, firing up the chainsaw to drop a bunch of dead spruce trees near the cabins. Don’t fret fishermen who read this blog, I’ll still find time to see what’s swimming in the river.

Come back next week to see what’s happening at Beaver Creek Cabins & Guide Service.
