Fall is in the air.
Leaves are changing and I’m starting to wear long underwear.
How was the fishing this past week? It was very good the first five days. The last two days were a struggle. I think the turbidity/debris from the recent release of the Snowy River glacier dam affected the bite.
On to the report…
The first day of the fishing week I was joined by Ladde and Glen. It was a sunny day with decent action.
Labor Day Monday I was joined by George (he’s baaack!), Ladde, Glen, and Dan. Another great day except until it wasn’t. In the last 15 minutes of our trip a harbor seal stripped a silver off of Ladde’s line.
On Super Tuesday it was George, Esko Bill, Ron, and Aillie. We didn’t get ‘em all, but the average weight was nice.
On Wednesday Paul, Mia, Leslie, and George had no problem catching their limits. This was the final day of fishing with my old friend George from LA (Lower Alabama…actually Florida). He said this is his last trip to Alaska. In 2005 he told me that too. Nine “last trips” later, I’m not entirely convinced this will be it for him. I sure hope not.
On Thursday, Team Montana crushed it. Above is Clay, Dan, Kevin, and Kim. It was great to meet all of you.
What the heck happened on Friday? Fished all day and saw a total of three fish caught. Leslie was one of the lucky ones who caught this silver at quitting time. Even though it was a slow day of fishing, it was enjoyable to be on the water with Paul, Mia, and Jane.
The final day of fishing gave us the same results. We fished all day and at quitting time we finally got a fish to the net. Way to go Gary for being so patient.
For the week ahead I’m hoping the water conditions will improve. This is the historic peak period of the second run of silver salmon and turbidity and debris can be a bite killer.
Come back in seven days to see what Mother Nature throws our way.
