Fishing Report Week Ending 8/4/24

August 4, 2024 //  by beavercreek

It was a fun week fishing the Kenai River. I was able to spend quality time with long time friends, and make a few new ones too. The catching was pretty good also…

Sunday morning Todd, Renee, and Ray kept me on my toes netting fish.

Sunday afternoon was spent dipnetting with Steve Dan, and Joe (not pictured).

Monday morning I had a lot of fun with Eric, Linda, and Doug. After a lunch break at the cabins, we added Theresa to the crew and went back out for more fishing. I unfortunately took no photos of our afternoon catch with Theresa. You’ll have to trust me that it was pretty good bite.

Tuesday was day 2 for Rick, Ben, Tom, and Derek. Rinse, lather, repeat. These guys were definitely dialed again.

Colette and Taylor have been guests of ours before, but have been here during less than ideal times to catch a salmon. This time, they booked during the peak of the red salmon run and brought their friends, Scott and Terri, with. Their timing was excellent.

Thursday morning was a bit tough for Wilbur and George. But, by the afternoon George “This Is My Last Trip” found his groove. See you next year George for your next last trip!

Day 2 for Scott, Terri, Colette, and Taylor was different than Day 1, but as productive. The morning was a bit slow, so we decided to have lunch break back at the cabins. The decision was a good one. The action was much better in the afternoon. Job well done!

What a wonderful way to end the week. Happy anglers, happy guide. I sure enjoyed my time with Mike and Mackenzie and look forward to the next time you come to Alaska.

My forecast for the week ahead is we will have to be patient on the river as we transition from the red salmon run into the pink and silver salmon runs. We’ve caught a few pinks and a silver while red fishing. That’s promising, but time will tell when the run will pick up. In the meantime, I’m flexible and will bring all the gear needed to chase all three species.

See you next week for a new report.
