Jane and I spent the past week entertaining family. Rain, wind, sun, heat, cold, we experienced the weather gamut of an Alaskan summer.
At least there weren’t any earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or tsunamis.
My cousin Karl and his wife Mel, along with my cousin Alina and her boyfriend Sean, made their first trip to Alaska.
We/they hit the spots that make the Kenai Peninsula a destination worth visiting.

In Homer, our first stop was the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. Jane and I have not been in the center before and really enjoyed it. We will definitely be going back another time to explore more. As my buddy Boo described it, “there’s a lot of reading to do in there…”.

On one of the better weather days we decided to give the Kenai River a try to see if there were any sockeye salmon moving through on their journey to the Russian River.

After several hours of fishing at multiple spots, we got our answer. There were no fish on this day. It’s still a bit early.

That doesn’t mean we didn’t have fish for dinner that night. All the credit for a wonderfully prepared meal of halibut tacos goes to Jane.
There was another day without rain in the forecast so that was when the four of them spent a day in Seward. Their timing was great and the four of them were able to enjoy all that Seward has to offer. Well, not everything, but lots of things in one day.
Other adventures this past week included the Wednesday Market in Soldotna and dining at several of our uniquely Alaska restaurants on the peninsula.

It’s always fun seeing family when we’re less busy and can actually do a few things with them. So, if you’re family and you want to come see us, please try not to come in July.
See you next week!
