I met with a financial advisor this winter and one of the questions he asked is if I had a 401K.
I told him I didn’t, but I have a 401K16, a 401K15, and a 401K14. And, I have lots of them.
He wasn’t a fisherman and was puzzled by my answer. I explained to him that Luhr Jensen makes a lure called a Kwikfish and the sizes/models come in K16, K15, K14, etc., hence the 401K16 reference.
All joking aside, the amount of money people are willing to pay for a Kwikfish lure is insane. It’s not just a recent, pandemic driven thing either. I’ve been seeing these prices soar for several years now.
Is this the next Beanie Baby craze?
I’m stumped why prices are so high for these lures. Some of them are old and have been used, some of them have never been out of the box. Some are original Luhr Jensen made, while others are Rapala made. One thing seems evident, when collectors and fisherman both want something, the price goes up.
For me, I own a lot of these lures for one simple reason: they catch fish. The only way I would sell any of them is if I stop fishing altogether.
Stop fishing altogether? Yeah, that’s as crazy as the prices people are paying.
See you next week.
