It’s day three of AK Board of Fisheries meetings and already there are changes to the fishery.
Ironically, these changes are from the International Pacific Halibut Commission, and not the Board of Fisheries and will affect the halibut fishery in South Central Alaska.
Charter operators will be unable to book halibut trips on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. In addition, there’s been a change in the daily bag limit of two halibut. One halibut can be any size, but the second halibut must be under 26″. This is a reduction of 2″ from the previous regulation.
These changes do not directly affect what we offer at Beaver Creek Cabins & Guide Service, but it does affect many of our guests who work in a halibut trip to Homer, Deep Creek, or Seward.
