It was the toughest week of guiding for me this season. High, dirty water, no bait, huge tides, and low numbers of silver salmon made for long days on the river.
I’m glad I had the crew that I did in such difficult conditions. Not boating many fish stings, but it was lessened by great attitudes every day.
Tom, Dan, and Mike gave it their all with nothing in return. We had a couple of bites, but that doesn’t fill a fish box.
The water conditions improved slightly by Tuesday. The action was marginally better. Nate, Thomas, Scott, and Steve gave it a good effort. We had 4 bites on the day and landed 1.
Here’s Steve showing off the lone silver salmon of the day. He won the bet for the first fish, the biggest fish, and the most fish of the day.
On Wednesday, we didn’t have quantity of fish, but the size was impressive. Here’s Mark with a 12lber.
And Gary followed up with a nice 13lber.
The following day John, Chris, and Ben were in my boat. We ended up with 2 silver salmon. Here’s Chris holding the larger of the two.
Even though the Kenai fished tough this past week, John and his crew ended up with quite a haul fishing the the peninsula. Between their saltwater trips, fly in trips, and time on the Kasilof River, everyone ended up with plenty of fillets to bring back home to Texas. Hey guys, thanks for the wonderful attitudes, and understanding that it’s fishing. See you next year.
On the last day of the fishing week I was out with friends. Gus had the hot rod and caught 2 reds and this nice silver salmon.
For the week ahead.
The tides are getting smaller, the water should drop and clear up. So yeah, I like our chances.
See you next week!
