Is this the last silver salmon of the season?
If it is, it’s a heckuva way to end 2021.
The young man in the photo above is Jagger. He came to Alaska with his buddies Dan and Pete to explore the peninsula. Even though they hadn’t scheduled a fishing trip with me, I asked them if they wanted to go out fishing for a couple of hours before dinner (I could use the company and the extra lines in the water).
Of course, their answer was yes.
In our little window of fishing, we caught one, and lost one. Jagger’s smile says it all.
I sure enjoyed meeting the three of you, and I look forward to the next time we’re out fishing again.

So, if you don’t have a lot of fishing stories for a weekly fishing report, you change the topic and talk about the weather.
If you haven’t stopped reading at this point, and your curious, our temperatures all week have been peaking in the mid 40’s. The morning lows have been in the 20’s.

Yeah, that’s cold. In fact, it’s been cold enough for ice to form in the creek.

How about this photo? Out on the main river there’s been icicles forming on the shady side of the bank.

Topic change number two. It never gets old seeing big game animals in our area.

I found these three caribou hanging out on Angler Drive.
For the week ahead.
The tides this week are perfect for the dock to be removed. Before I do that, I hope to sneak in a little fishing. I really think the salmon runs are over for the year, but if I don’t try, I’ll never know for sure.
Come back next week to see if I have any stories about fishing (or not).
