It was a seamless transition this week from red salmon fishing to silver salmon fishing. The red salmon fishing has been incredible, and the silver salmon fishing has been a lot better than I anticipated. I’m excited about the week ahead because the silver fishing will improve when the no bait restriction is lifted on August 16.
On to the weekly fishing report.
On Monday, Jane asked if we could go out and get enough salmon for canning. How could I say no to that? Twelve fish came to the bank in just over an hour.
On Tuesday, I helped my friend Boo with a group of ten. The fishing was decent, not red hot, but good enough to make for a great day on the river.
Wednesday, I helped Boo once again. It took three hours to catch 60 red salmon. It was fast and furious with multiple fish on at the same time. Uff da!
Thursday, I fished with Doug, Grant, and Alvin. They wanted to focus on silver salmon and so did I. When the first bite of the day was a double, I knew we were going to have a great day.
Here’s Doug, “The Closer” with the final silver of the day.
Great choice to target silvers, guys.
On Friday, it was Jared, Maggie, and Matt’s turn to fish for silvers. We didn’t get the full limit, but we had our chances. Thanks, guys, it was a pleasure to spend the day with you. Your positive attitudes and enthusiasm are contagious.
Here’s Rick, Ed, Rich, and Leslie with their limit of silver salmon. What a great way to finish out an incredible week of fishing.
For the week ahead.
I’m anticipating another fantastic week of silver salmon fishing. As stated earlier, bait will now be legal and the catch rate will go up dramatically. For those of you looking for fresh red salmon, the bulk of the run has made it’s way to the middle and upper Kenai River now.
See you next week!
