When the world gives you lemons, you make lemonade. This phrase is number 4 on my all time use of clichés.
In all the years I’ve kept this blog, I rarely write about what I do in the off season. Topics discussed usually revolve around the upcoming fishing season, the past season, or about Beaver Creek Cabins & Guide Service. After all, the blog is about our business.
This week I’m going to make an exception.
The thing I probably do the most in the winter is ice fish. It’s peaceful, fun, and a great excuse to be in the outdoors. If I were a smarter man, I’d figure out a way to be a full time ice guide. In the meantime, ice fishing is something I do just for me.
This past week there was a lot of “me” time.
If you’re wondering if I’m wearing COVID-19 wear in the photo above, you would be wrong. Just like in the summer, I wear a face mask to cut down on UV light/sun damage. Believe it or not, I’ve suffered worse sunburn in the winter than in the summer. The reflection off the snow can be intense.
What do I fish for? I fish for whatever will bite.
Like all fishing, there are days when you catch them, and there are days when you don’t.
And, keeping with CDC guidelines and social distancing, I’ve been drilling fish holes six feet apart. I haven’t had anybody want to fish close to me yet, but I am prepared if they do.
Be well. Be safe. See you next week.
