Finally, enough snow has melted to allow access to the cabins. I never know from year to year if any animals, or humans, got into anything. To my relief, everything was how I left it last fall.

The only winter casualty was a large birch tree fell in the front yard. Considering how many wind events happened this winter, losing one tree was fortunate. It helped that I’ve been clearing out dead, and nearly dead spruce trees the past couple of years. I’m sure I’ll find a few more spruce to take down when I’m cleaning up the birch tree.

If you’ve been to our place before, you’ll notice a different view this year. My neighbor is in the process of building a log cabin next to the shed. He’s been parking a 5th wheeler there the past two summers and decided to make things a little more permanent. I guess he doesn’t mind the early morning and late night fishing traffic on the property and on the creek….

There’s still quite a bit of shelf ice on the creek. With warming temperatures and a building high tide cycle, the remaining ice should be gone soon.

I sure hope so. I’ve got my fingers crossed it will all be gone by May 8th when I’m planning on putting the dock in. Until then, my chainsaw will be getting a workout.
