Fishing Report Week Ending 9/23/23

September 24, 2023 //  by beavercreek

Like the falling temperatures, the silver salmon run is starting to decline.

Sure, we caught fish every day, but the bites were few and far between. This is typical of a bell curve salmon run.
I didn’t just fish the river this past week. On Monday, my sister Heidi, and her friends Sara, Ann, and Sonja, joined Jane and I on a fishing trip out of Homer. The ocean was a bit rough, so we weren’t able to go out as far as Captain Boo would like to go. That being said, no one complained about fishing in calmer waters and amassing 125lbs of halibut and rock bass fillets. Thanks Boo, for another great ocean adventure.
On Wednesday, Heidi and her friends joined me on the river to fish for silver salmon. Here’s Katie catching dinner.
And here’s Sonja with the largest of the two salmon she caught.

On Thursday, Michael and Claire caught just enough salmon to keep their luggage under the 50lb threshold. It was the perfect amount of fish to bring back home to Minnesota.

Friday morning we were greeted with 31 degrees. As the day warmed up, I was hoping the fishing action would too. It didn’t.

Pictured above is Tim with a double digit beauty.

Here’s Joe with a nice silver salmon. Joe said his goal was not to get skunked on the Kenai. Mission accomplished.

And here’s Dan with the final salmon of the season. I was really hoping to get a fish photo with Kellie, but unfortunately the fish had other plans. See you guys next year!

For the week ahead.

My 2023 guiding season is over so I will be winterizing, winterizing, and winterizing the cabins. However, the boat is on the dock ready to go.

Come back next week to see if I finished my chores and got out fishing.
