Is this the last silver salmon of 2022?
It could very well be.
This past week my neighbor, Dan, and I took my guide boat out of the water for the season. He’s helped me for years, and part of the deal is we fish one last time. It’s only fitting that the guy that helps with this task catches the only fish of the day. Way to go Dan.
I’m not done fishing for the year, though. I still have my other boat on the dock. The only way to see if more fish are making their way up the river is to get out and try it. No problemo.
It wasn’t all work this past week. Jane and I took a break from winterizing things and headed down the peninsula for a couple of days with our camper in tow. Our first stop was in Homer. Why not? It’s where the road ends. It’s always interesting when you camp near a working port.
The next night we stayed in Anchor Point. It was a very quiet state campground this time of year. Perfect.
It was nice to decompress from a busy season and spend some alone time with Jane.

With the batteries charged, it was time to get back and finish the end of the season shut down. As I started to winterize the boat, a moose decided to hang out by me. It was as if she was saying, “not yet, I want one more boat ride.” Well, that’s how I would caption the photo above.
We’re oh so close to finishing up with the last of the chores. Come back next week to read my final fishing report. It would be nice to have one last fresh meal of silver salmon, or some halibut…stay tuned.
