I’d like to thank the readers of this blog who took the time to contact the Alaska Board of Fisheries to voice opposition to Proposition 283.
It was defeated for two reasons. The first, the proposal was submitted “out of cycle” from the normal Board of Fisheries Upper Cook Inlet meeting schedule. Second, when the Kenai in-river king salmon escapement goal was not being met, the proposal allowed a small group of commercial fisherman an opportunity to fish. When every fish matters, this clearly made no sense.

Long live the kings!
