Recently, we received a cancellation for a prime fishing period.
If you want to get it on the tail end of the red salmon run, and the beginning of the pink and silver salmon runs, the Sockeye cabin (3 beds) is available August 6th-12th. There are also 2 seats available for guided fishing for 2 of the days that week.
One of the things I like about this time period is that there are a lot of opportunities to find fish without hiring a guide. Just grab a spinning rod, a few Vibrax spinners, and head to one of the many parks/public accesses on the Kenai River. There are also several creeks and streams within an hour drive that will provide decent action as well.
As an added bonus, this is also the best time of the year to catch salmon off our dock.
The daily limit is three red/silver salmon (only two can be silver salmon) and six pink salmon. There is not a possession limit so you can retain a limit everyday. It’s a nice way to fill your freezer.
