What do you do in your spare time? If you’re Big Will Jahrig, you build a saltwater boat.

My friends, Will and Becky Jahrig (the original owners of Beaver Creek Cabins and Guide Service), decided three years ago to build their dream saltwater boat. They tried to find a ready-built boat, but couldn’t find the right fit.
That’s when Will decided he was going to build his own.

Will has built a lot of things in his life, but none as detailed and intricate as this boat. Clearly, a lifetime of learned skills are being used during this project.

It’s been awhile since I last saw Will and his boat build, so I made it a point to stop in to see him this week.

I’m amazed how far along this project has come considering Will has a full time job. He probably thinks it’s been slow going, but that’s a natural reaction when you’re in the middle of it all.

I find it’s fun to compare photos throughout the years. The photo above was taken in October of 2019.

So was this one (Jane getting the grand tour from Will).

And this one too.

This is the earliest photo that I have. It was taken in April of 2019.
My photos really don’t do justice to the workmanship needed to build a boat like this. If you would like to see more details of this project, Will has been documenting the entire boat build on YouTube. Search“Will Jahrig Boat Build” and you will find his video library from Day 1.
The major structure of the boat is basically complete. That leaves a lot of fine detail work to be done. I asked Will when he’ll be launching the boat. He’s crossing his fingers and is shooting for August/September.
Like the Jahrig’s, I can hardly wait.
