This past week Alaska Governor, Mike Dunleavy, elected not to extend the COVID emergency travel mandates. Since last spring travelers to Alaska have been required to show documentation of a negative COVID test 72 hours prior to arrival (or test at the airport), and quarantine for 5 days. Not any more.
Governor Dunleavy replaced the COVID mandates with advisories. They can be found here.
To summarize, travelers to Alaska by air no longer have to COVID test, nor quarantine. Both are still strongly encouraged.
If you plan to travel to Alaska this summer by land or sea, you are out of luck. In order to do either, you’ll need to pass through Canada. Canada has banned all non essential travel.
Alaska is on the path to normalcy, but if any of the metrics change for the worse you can expect amendments. I am hopeful that Canada will turn things around and begin to ease restrictions as well.
In the meantime, flights are cheap to Alaska and we have availability. We’d love to see you this summer.
