I Voted!

This is not a post about politics. Instead, this is a post about this year’s awesome “I Voted” stickers in Alaska.  

A brief history is in order first.

In 2018, the State of Alaska Division of Elections broke from tradition and created a new “I Voted” sticker. The iconic Alaska flag had been used for years and they turned to Juneau artist Pat Race to freshen up the design.

Freshen up he did. His Alaska themed motifs became an instant hit and garnered national attention.

This year, the Alaska Department of Elections wanted to recognize the 100th anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote. They chose Anchorage artist Barbara Lavallee to design the new stickers.

The theme of Lavallee’s designs celebrate the diversity, strength, and power of Alaskan women.

They are printed in English, Spanish, Koyukon, Gwich’in, Aleut, Tagalog, Alutiq, Northern Inupiaq, Nunivak, Cup’ig, and Yup’ik.

If there’s a vote for the artist who should design the 2022 “I Voted” sticker, I would cast mine for Ray Troll. The man has been creating crazy Alaskana art for decades.
