Monday was the first day that I’ve had off in 29 days. During that entire stretch I fished for red salmon. That’s a lot of time wearing waders and standing in the river.
After my time off, I was back in the boat chasing silver salmon. This will be my focus until the end of September. I enjoy fishing for red salmon, but the change is welcome.
I started out the fishing week with Jim, Mike, and Chris. The fishing wasn’t fast, but it was a beautiful day on the river. I like forward to seeing you guys in the next year or two.
On Tuesday, it was the return of Team Brainerd. From left to right is Dan, Paul, Don, and Mark. We ended up with 6 silver salmon (we got 1 in the afternoon), and 1 red salmon. We had plenty of chances to get everyone there 2 fish limit, but sometimes the fish win. Overall, the best silver salmon action of the year. Jane and I look forward to seeing you in 2025 for part 2 of your “trip of a lifetime.”
On Wednesday, within the first 15 minutes of our trip we had a double. I figured the double was a precursor to the action that lay ahead. I was wrong. We didn’t catch another salmon for 7 hours later. From left to right are Rob, Rebecca, Brian, and Jo. I sure enjoyed my time with all of you.
On Thursday, there were more silvers in the river than the day before. In the morning I had the pleasure to be in the boat with Abby, Jake, Jess, and Alex. Silvers, sunshine, and smiles. What’s not to like about that?
On Thursday afternoon, Tim and Nancy joined Jake to finish out the day. The bite had slowed down considerably. Tim caught the only one and it was a beauty.
On Friday, I had a wonderful morning with Rob, Rob, Jared, and Rebecca. We had a pretty good hour of action, but then the bite slowed down. Dang.
Rob, Jared, and I went back out again after lunch and caught a couple of more silver salmon. Here’s Rob with the big fish of the day. Well, done sir.
On Saturday, Dan, Lloyd, Jared, and Rob joined me for the final fishing day of the week. Jared and Rob got their silver salmon limit early. Dan and Lloyd ended up one short. It was another great day of conversation and fishing on the Kenai.
That’s it for now. See you next week.
