My work rain gear is tough. It has to be. Rain or shine, I wear it every day during the fishing season. The new technology breathable fabrics are great, but they don’t work for me. Technical fabric, which will keep me dry, holds the smell and stains of fish slime and bait goo. Nothing works better in my work environment than PVC coated gear. It keeps me dry, and with a brush and a hose, I can scrub off the odors and stains of the day. 

In my opinion, when it comes to commercial work rain gear, the two best manufacturers are Grundens, and Helly Hansen. The Swedes and Norwegians know how to do this right.

I’m not as picky when it comes to my dress rain gear. It’s used occasionally, so comfort and staying dry are what’s important to me. With that in mind, I started to shop for new dress rain gear for 2022.

There are a lot of great companies making great rain gear. Simms, Stearns, Columbia, REI, Blackfish, Carhartt, Cabela’s, just to name a few.

One brand that I’ve had my eye on is Frogg Toggs. They’ve always had basic entry level rain gear, but recently entered into higher quality market. I noticed several of my clients this past year wearing their better rain gear. I liked what I saw and decided to check them out.
